St. Joseph’s Basilica
Catholic Women’s League
Red Sand Prayer Service
Saturday, June 4 at 10:30 AM
The CWL, in partnership with the IWIN Initiative, invites you to meet outside the Basilica to pray for and raise awareness for human trafficking. Participants read aloud a short prayer service and then fill sidewalk cracks with red sand, creating sidewalk art.
The red sand symbolizes that we cannot walk over the most marginalized people in our communities – those who fall through the metaphoric cracks. To IWIN, the red sand also represents Jesus’ blood poured out for all of God’s children. All are welcome.
To be followed by Rosary for Intentions of Pope Francis and Seven Sister Apostolate Rosary for Archbishop Smith.

Divine Mercy Sunday Chaplet Celebration - Sunday, April 24, 2022
On Sunday, April 24 (Divine Mercy Sunday) we invite our CWL Sisters to join the St. Alphonsus Council in praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet after the Sunday 11:00 am Mass. In praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet, we offer the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus, which unites our intentions to the sacrifice of the Mass. In other words, the Divine Mercy Chaplet is like an act of Spiritual Communion. Through this chaplet, we obtain forgiveness and intercede for the salvation of souls.
Please plan to join us in celebrating the Divine Mercy with prayers and song.

Living Rosary Celebration for May the Month of Mary - Sunday, May 15, 2022
May is traditionally dedicated in a special way to honouring and seeking the intercession of Mary as the Mother of God and Mother of the Church.
The St. Alphonsus CWL invites all our CWL Sisters to join us at a Living Rosary Celebration on Sunday, May 12, 2022 after the 11:00 am Mass to encourage and spread the Devotion of the Rosary in our parish and homes.
For this is the month during which Christians, in their churches and their homes, offer the Virgin Mother more fervent and loving acts of homage and veneration; and it is the month in which a greater abundance of God’s merciful gifts comes down to us from our Mother’s throne”
Please plan to join us for this beautiful celebration. There will be Fellowship in the hall after the Living Rosary.

National Online Membership Training
Communique #14 – Organization November 20, 2020 Online Membership Training The League’s executive secretary will be presenting a webinar titled Online Membership – Everything You Need to Know! on December 4th at 1:00 p.m. CST and on December 12th at 2:00 p.m. CST. Visit the national website, cwl.ca and scroll to Quick Links to register. Chairpersons are encouraged to participate to allow for a well-rounded understanding of the online membership system process. The information is directed to the parish level but having provincial and diocesan levels attend is welcome. Please communicate this to your diocesan counterparts. Acknowledging that one-third of all parish councils receive their information by mail and being the ones that then choose to process membership manually, all chairpersons are asked to promote the value of online membership submissions. It is simpler, faster and the way of the future. Fran Lucas National President-Elect and Chairperson of Organization Red Deer Sacred Heart Knights of Columbus Raffle

Prayer for Peace in the Holy Land
The first annual National Day of Prayer for Christians in the Holy Land is September 21st. With the current unrest in the Middle East and the devastation that occurred in Beirut, Lebanon, prayers for peace are greatly needed.
One suggestions is to begin the day of prayer by lighting a candle, and praising God through the song, “Peace is Flowing like a River.”
Proceed with saying the Prayer for Peace in the Holy Land. Meditate after each statement. If possible, take turns in reading.
After the prayer is complete, do a scripture reading from the Word of God. A discussion of the reading could follow.
End the service by praising God for the good things He has given.
May Our Lady of Good Counsel continue to give you strength and wisdom as you continue to work for the people of His Son, Jesus Chris
This comes from Marie C. Rackley, National Chairperson of Community Life.
Prayer for Peace in the Holy Land
God of our longing,
Remember those who wait and hope for peace.
Hear our prayer and our lament
for our bothers and sister in Israel and Palestine.
With them, we share a common story,
set in a common homeland.
Make common also a will to forgive,
to reconcile,
to make a just peace for the sake of the ancestors,
for the sake of the children.
Open ears, eyes and hearts
And make a way toward justice
In our war-torn world.
God all merciful, you dwell in all human hearts
And the Holy Land is wherever you make your home.
Heal these broken places where prophets preached
Where Moses and Jesus and Muhammad kept faith with you.
Be a sure support for those who work toward reconciliation
And make us all, however far away,
Steadfast in their cause.
Amen
