Winter 2022 ~ Spring 2023
Book Project
Message from Edmonton Diocesan President
Dear Ladies,
Over the past couple of months, many CWL members have asked when the next book for the Diocesan Book Project was going to be selected. Based on the positive feedback for last year's book project, we have decided to do the book project again.
This year, there are 4 books to choose from. All of the books selected have indigenous authors and have themes of family, hope, kindness, and friendship. All books are also available in both English and French, and we have identified various publishers for ordering the books. I have attached a brochure with information about each of this year's books.
We wanted to provide more flexibility with this year's book selections so parish councils have more options. You can pick one book or a couple or all. You can pick French or English, and you can pick who your council would like to order from.
"I Hope" and "When we are Kind" are great books for kindergarten and first graders (these two books are shorter and simpler). "What's my superpower?" and "On the trapline" are longer books suitable for kids with longer attention spans. "On the trapline" could even be suitable for middle schoolers.
I'd like to thank Tara Pev for looking into this year's books. Her connections to Catholic education were a big help! And, she's already looking ahead to next year's book selections as we plan to have those books announced ahead of next Fall so councils are able to take part in Fall Reading Week at their local schools (in October) if they wish.
One final note - Each parish in the Archdiocese has schools affiliated with it. Please make sure that if your council is taking part in the book project to donate books to the schools within your parish's specific group of affiliated schools. This will avoid particular schools receiving books from multiple councils. However, in some cases there are schools affiliated with a parish which does not have a CWL council - in those cases, you are welcome to include such schools.
Thank you in advance to all parish CWL councils who plan to take part in this year's book project!
Happy reading!
Blessings,
