Mass for Life
Thursday May 14
Since public gatherings have been cancelled and physical distancing has been our “new normal," the annual March for Life scheduled for May 14 in Edmonton and across Canada has been cancelled. Archbishop Smith traditionally celebrates a Mass for Life on the morning of the march. This year, the Mass will be livestreamed from St. Joseph's Basilica at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 14. This mass will also be broadcast on Telus Optik TV Channel 8915.
Bishops across Alberta will be celebrating similar masses in their dioceses.

Continued Prayer is Needed as Abortions Continue
Since The Back Porch was founded...
We have spoken with 5,569 clients & We know of 163 lives that were saved from abortion! This past month at the Porch...
Many of you have been checking in to find out how the coronavirus has affected the Back Porch. We remain open and still accept clients, though our hours are decreased slightly - we are open from 8am-4pm daily. Only staff and clients will be on the premises and we sanitize high-use areas regularly.
The clinic in Edmonton continues to perform abortions. We feel it is therefore essential that we remain available to offer information and alternatives, so long as we are able to do so. Please remember us in your prayers during this time. God is still at work!
Registration for the Year of Prayer 2020 is now open!
All weeks in 2020 are now posted on our website and ready for you to claim! Head to www.alies.ca/year-of-prayer to sign-up today! Again this year, each month has a unique theme and optional scripture readings with devotions. Additionally, this year we will be praying with the names of God. This will help to guide us as we unite in prayer all across the country. We saw God move in powerful ways in 2019, and we know that is only because of prayer. We would love for you to join us in this exciting and impactful prayer initiative. Check out our website for full details.
Giving HOPE — Online Art Auction
Aid to Women, a pregnancy crisis center in Toronto, is hosting an online art auction to raise funds for their ministry to abortion-minded women and men and they need submissions! You don't have to be a professional by any means, just send in any piece of art you create depicting HOPE or GIVING HOPE. A painting, or sketch, drawing, photo, poem, sculpture or any other medium.
These works of art will be auctioned off on the ATW website.
You will be inspiring HOPE in yourself, your family and friends, your members, auction bid winners! They are currently serving 46 mothers and their babies. The most they have had at one time in their over 30 year history!
We're Hiring!
ALIES is seeking qualified candidates for two positions: an administrative assistant (responsible for clerical work and office management) and a Back Porch coordinator (responsible for volunteer management and client interactions).
Interviews for these positions will take place after the social distancing measures in place because of COVID-19 are lifted, but resumes are being accepted at this time.
If you believe you or someone you know would be a good fit for ALIES' life-saving ministry, we encourage you to apply or spread the news!
Resumes can be sent to [email protected]. More information, including the full job postings can be found on our website.
The Extra Pro-life Show
During this time of social distancing and isolation, the National Campus Life Network (NCLN) is hosting an online, interview-based, pro-life show.
The EXTRA Pro-life show is a media platform where they will discuss all things related to abortion in Canada and beyond. The aim is to give you a look into organizations who are tackling the crisis of abortion and help you learn from them. Our very own ALIES Executive Director will be a guest on the show later this month — check it out!
Episodes will air every Wednesday, starting April 1st, 2020."I have said this to you, so that in me you may have peace. In the world you face persecution. But take courage; I have conquered the world!” John 16:33

Dear NAVFD Members and Friends,
Last week we received this information from Deacon Mike Walsh, Executive Director of the National Catholic Broadcasting Council:
We will be dedicating a Week of Daily TV Masses for Prayers for Vocations. This is the 2nd year for this and last year we partnered with the Serra Club and Knights of Columbus and they will also be involved again this year.
I believe we have a unique platform to engage our community across Canada and now around the world in this Week of Prayer which leads up to the World Day of Prayer for Vocations on Sunday April 22nd. We may also have an opportunity for religious communities to share their stories with our audience.
We would like to let as many people know about this and ask them join us in prayer as possible. Here is the current schedule of Masses and themes and Bishop Kasun will get things started with the Mass to tape on Thursday April 5th at 4:00 PM for the Mass of Sat. April 14. The masses are held at Loretto Abbey in Toronto.

The Euthanasia Deception is a documentary and educational outreach initiative that exposes what euthanasia laws can do to a country’s culture in a mere 15 years. The case study is Belgium: euthanasia’s ‘ground zero’. Based on a series of heart-wrenching personal testimonies along with medical, legal and expert analysis, producers reveal how all of us become vulnerable when life and death matters are handed over to lawmakers and doctors. The Euthanasia Prevention Coalition is selling DVD copies of the documentary for $30, 4 for $100, or 10 for $200. Order by calling 1-877-439-3348 or emailing [email protected]. If you would like to organize a screening for your parish or community, the coalition may be able to provide a speaker or lead a question and answer session after the screening. For more information, click on the promotional video above or go to VulnerableFilm.com.

Opposing Euthanasia & Assisted Suicide:
Add your name
Last October, in a unique show of solidarity, faith leaders from Catholic, Orthodox, Evangelical, Jewish and Muslim traditions across Canada signed a joint Declaration on Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide (http://www.euthanasiadeclaration.ca/declaration/). The sponsoring signatories, including Canada's Catholic Bishops, are now inviting all Canadians who agree with the principles outlined in the Declaration to add their own signatures. The hope is that a significant number of Canadians will sign so that when faith leaders engage federal, provincial, territorial or municipal governments on this issue, the Declaration can be used as evidence of the numerous and diverse groups of Canadians who do not support physician-assisted suicide.
We encourage you to sign the Declaration online at the following links:
